Statement from the Betty Mitchell Awards Board

Dear Calgary Theatre Community and Attendees of the 2018 Betty Mitchell Awards; It has come to our attention that there have been concerns raised regarding some aspects of the 2018 Betty Mitchell awards presentation held on June 25, 2018.

The Betty Mitchell Awards Board would like to state that statements and opinions expressed during recipient speeches do not reflect the opinions of the Board. The Board does not support statements or opinions that disregard or delay progression toward safe workspaces. The Board supports CAEA’s Not in Our Spaces program and the work being done to create safe spaces in the community at large.

We are grateful for the community feedback in these matters. Both independently and in conjunction with CART, the Board will be reviewing our practices and policies in to mitigate these concerns for future presentations.

Thank you,

Braden Griffiths – Outgoing Chair,

Nikki Giguere – Incoming Chair

And the Betty Mitchell Awards Board
