THE BETTYS: A NEW SCENE
After conducting an extensive audience and community engagement survey in 2014, it became clear that our audience wanted two things: the opportunity to connect with their fellow performing arts industry peers, and, to help in that endeavor, a less-expensive ticket price. After carefully reviewing the options, the Bettys Board is excited to announce that for the 2015 Bettys Gala, we will be moving to the Vertigo Theatre.
We would like to thank Stage West Theatre for being such kind and generous hosts these last years!
THE VERTIGO: WHAT’S CHANGING?
Moving to a different space, as any performer will tell you, makes a difference to the type of experience that a show can create. With the Bettys move to the Vertigo, a few things will be changing:
There will not be a buffet dinner along with the show, BUT we have negotiated discounts and special rates with local restaurants to permit those who wish to make the Bettys a night out, to keep that tradition alive!
The after party will be in the Vertigo Studio, meaning that our friends and colleagues can celebrate the great work on Calgary’s stages, and then work it (we mean dancing) on one of Calgary’s stages.
The lobby bar will be serving drinks before the show, at intermission, and for the after party.
YOU MENTIONED A CHEAPER TICKET?
That’s right – one of the opportunities the move to the Vertigo afforded us was the chance to reevaluate our ticket price, ensuring we can keep the Bettys viable and healthy into the future, while making our show accessible to as many of our community partners and fellow theatre practitioners as possible. Tickets for the 2015 Gala will be $30.00 for the first 100 sold, and $35.00 after that.
IS THE SHOW CHANGING?
For the 2015 Betty Mitchell Awards, the show format will be very similar to previous years. The Bettys Board received a lot of feedback in our survey about ways our audience believes we could improve the show, and we are being thoughtful about how we evolve the Bettys Gala. In the coming months, we will be engaging with the community in other ways to share some ideas and thoughts about how we want to move forward and will be seeking input from you on what you’d like to see.
